Albanian Opposition on 2nd Day of Protest – Decides To Boycott Parliament

Tirana, Albania | Tirana Echo – The Albanian opposition democrats have decided to stand off requesting PM Rama’s resignation and boycotting parliament, as their protest enters second night in the main boulevard of Tirana.

On the second day of the protest in Tirana, DP Chairman Lulzim Basha said that there’s no turning back and that there could not be elections with this prime minister in power.

Basha who spent the night with DP militants in a tent improvised in front of the PM Office said that “this is a tent of freedom full of protesters who want democracy. We want free and fair elections, and these cannot take place unless Edi rama leaves and a technical government is formed”.

The Democratic Party gathered this afternoon its chairmanship which decided to continue the protest and boycott parliament until Prime Minister Edi Rama resigns.

Opposition MP Luciano Boci said that the opposition protest will go to the end until “a technical government is established and if needed elections can be postponed in order to guarantee its standards.”

Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP Edmond Spaho said this afternoon that “if we cannot guarantee free and fair elections, there will be no elections in June.”

The decision of the opposition to paralyse political life in Albania comes as Brussels has expressed concerns about the integrity of upcoming elections and as both the European Union the and USA expect the start of the Vetting of judges and prosecutors as part of an historic reform of the corrupt justice system in the country.
