All Eyes on Meta and LSI

Tirana, Albania | Tirana Echo – Albanian analysts say that given the radical move of the opposition to boycot parliamentary life, all eyes will now be on Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Ilir Meta who chairs the junior partner of the socialist government, the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI).

As the Democratic Party requests the resignation of PM Edi Rama and the establishment of a technical government, the survival of the current government lies in the hands of Meta, who has already articulated the thesis of a possible technical government which will serve the integrity of elections.

Influential analyst and host of popular tv show ‘Opinion’ Blendi Fevziu says that the decision of the democrats to stay on the boulevard until the creation of a technical government, servese also as an invitation for the LSI.

“It is now Ilir Meta’s turn. 7 months ago he said that he would be ready to support a technical government in order to give credibility to the elections. Now that the DP has turned this into the main condition for upcoming elections, Mr. Meta should speak out and confirm whether he stands by his promise or not.”

Fevziu says that as the socialists haver decreased in numbers because of the decriminalization process, Meta’s decision could this time be decisive.

It is not sure yet if DP Chair Lulzim Basha will inspire a spirit of national protests across the country and how the LSI will react. The DP, according to Fevziu, cannot fail this time, as a failure 4 months before general elections would be detrimental and fatal for the opposition.

Basha has placed a very high bet on this protest. Either he makes the protest go viral across the country, or will have to accept defeat. The LSI and its leader Ilir Meta are decisive over the next weeks.
