BREAKING: War and Unrest – Albania Opposition Leader Basha Warns Prime Minister Rama

Albania | Tirana Echo – Albania’s opposition leader Lulzim Basha has today warned Prime Minister Edi Rama of civil unrest and war in a fresh escalation of violent rhetoric during the 7th day of protesting by opposition militants.

Mr. Basha made the statement during the daily meeting with DP supporters at the protest tent improvised in front of the PM office in Tirana’s main boulevard.

Time will come for whoever attacks the citizens and our protest to be dragged through this square. If you want war, you will have war! Pierce their car tyres, break their windows – to all those who punish you unjustly. Who plays games with the people should do their math well because the popular wave will wipe them out of their offices” – said Basha this morning in Tirana.

In an obvious attempt to mobilize people across the country, the chair of the Democratic Party said this was not a party demonstration, but rather a people’s movement without turning back.

The people have had enough! The people and all of us have lost patience. The moment when popular anger rises is coming and you will have nowhere to hide. When they attack you, don’t turn the other cheek, but hit them back with your fist. For every injustice done, hit them back with a fist – because the time when people are treated as sheep, has come to an end” – added Basha in what is a fresh radical escalation of the rhetoric used in the opposition’s protest.

The shocking fresh statements come as the opposition leader had gathered business representatives of Albania inside the protest tent – where he accused PM Rama of dividing tenders and the nation’s wealth amongst four or five oligarchs while the rest of the people go deeper into poverty.

Basha also called on US Ambassador Donald Lu to remove US visas for prime minister Rama and interior minister Tahiri, recalling the recent decision by the US Embassy in Tirana to remove visas for the general prosecutor and several other public officials in Albania.

Last night the DP introduced new conditions for the prime minister while hinting that the protest will escalate further in the coming days.

The opposition democrats request the resignation of socialist PM Edi Rama, the establishment of a technical government to handle the country’s ‘free and fair elections’ and the revision of the ‘Vetting’ package of the justice reform.
