Albanian Parliament to gather on July 24 for Presidential swearing in ceremony

Tianar, Albania | Tirana Echo — Albania’s President Bujar Nishani  has decreed the much awaited date of July 24 for the swearing in ceremony of the country’s new President Ilir Meta.

The ceremony will be held in an extraordinary session in Albania’s parliament where the current Speaker of parliament and former leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI) Ilir meta will be sworn in as the new president of the small Balkan country.

The decree follows a bitter campaign where a president-elect Mr. Meta too over the command of the LSI’s electoral campaign, accusing PM Edi Rama of oligarchic links and incapacity to lead the country’s economy. In turn, the Socialists accused Mr. Meta of staining the presidential figure and hinted that they may block the swearing in ceremony on July 24.

However, Nishani’s decree removes all legal obstacles from blocking Meta’s presidency, a largely ceremonial role in Albania’s parliamentary system.
