Albanian opposition chair says technical government will need at least 100 days to prepare for general elections

Tirana, Albania | Tirana Echo –Albanian opposition leader Lulzim Basha has said there will be no general elections in June and that a new technical government would need at least 100 days to cut ties between crime and politics and prepare for new elections.

Responsing to PM Rama’s remarks at the SP National Assembly on Sunday, Democratic Party (DP) Chair Lulzim Basha said from Shkodra, where he was commemorating the 4 martyrs of a DP demonstration back in 1991 that “Rama was talking gibberish, being emboldened by what is the renewed alliance with crime”.

Speaking from the protest tent on Sunday, Basha warned Rama that the establishment of the technical government is the only peaceful way out of the present stalemate, otherwise he will have the end reserved to dictators.

Basha said that Rama should grant the technical government request without delay, as the new technical cabinet will need at least 100 days to cut ties between crime and politics.

Newspapers interpreted this later statement as implying the postponement of the parliamentary elections for at least three months.

Basha reiterated that no elections will be held on 18 June 2017. Speaking from the protest tent on Saturday, Basha promised to the formerly persecuted people that the culprits of the communist dictatorship, who tortured tens of young men and women during the years of the totalitarian regime, will not find any place in the forums of the new Republic to be established by the DP once in power.

Commenting on the fourth anniversary of the SP-SMI coalition deal signed in 2013, Basha said that Edi Rama was aware of the fact that he would certainly lose the parliamentary elections if they were held on the same day, and this was the reason why he was preparing a full-fledged operation for rigging them.

Opposition chair Basha warned Edi Rama and Ilir Meta that the Albanian people would not allow themselves to be fooled twice by their gang of thieves and criminals.

The opposition will never accept a puppet technical government controlled by Edi Rama. A technical government is the instrument for fighting the battle for free and fair elections, which the DP would surely win“, said Basha to his party faithful.
