Albania wins 2-0 against Liechtenstein and top Group G ahead of Spain and Italy

Albania are top of FIFA qualifiers Group G after tonight’s 2-0 win against Liechtenstein at the Rheinpark Stadium in Vaduz. This is the 2nd win of Albania after they beat Macedonia on the 6th September at the Loro Borici Stadium in the northern Albanian city of Shkodra.

The first goal was scored when Liechtenstein’s goalkeeper Peter Jehle juggled the ball over the line from Jahmir Hyka’s header abd the second was scored in the 71st minute by Bekim Balaj.

Albania is first of Group G after Italy played out a 1-1 draw with Spain.

After the match, the Albanian coach Gianni de Biasi seemd satisfied with the victory although did not hide expectations for a better game from the Albanian players.

‘We played well and perhaps we should have given more quality. The first Group G place means nothing as we have only played two matches so far. This is an important result which gives us faith for the rest of the qualifiers‘ said de Biasi after the final whistle at Liechtenstein’s Rheinpark Stadium in Vaduz.

Albania was a Euro 2016 surprise in France as they battled with dignity against several good teams and gave hope to thousands of desperate Albanian fans who had never seen their country in the finals of an international championship.
