Macedonia Crisis Deepens – President refuses to accept social democratic government

Skopje, Macedonia | Tirana Echo – The President of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov has refused to give the green light to a new government led by social democratic leader Zoran Zaev, further escalating the political crisis which has paralyzed the small Balkan country.

President Ivanov said after his meeting with Zaev that he had asked SDSM leader to turn down platforms which are drafted abroad, adding that the international community cannot impose outside solutions on Macedonia.

During a press conference Ivanov said that “the acceptance of the wider use of Albanian language as an externally imposed platform would be a criminal act and the Constitution and my own conscience do not allow me to give the mandate to Zaev”

Ivanov added that any wrong decision could have consequences for the state while the Albanian platform hampers the governing mandate requested by Zaev.

Ivanov said he will address public opinion on his decision to refuse a Zaev led government.

The decision follows threats by former PM Gruevski that new proposals to allow the Albanian language all over the territory of Macedonia would destabilize the macedonian society and its ethnic communities.
