Croatian Railways Infrastructure public company and the European Commission signed an agreement on co-financing the reconstruction of the existing track and construction of the second track of railway line from Križevci to the border with Hungary. The European Commission will provide co-financing of the project in the amount of 241 million euros, announced on Friday Croatian Railways Infrastructure, reports HRT .
“After the European Commission over the summer issued a preliminary decision on co-financing of the construction of the second track of the railway line Križevci – Koprivnica – state border, Croatian Railways Infrastructure signed with the European Commission and its INEA agency an agreement that as much as 85 percent of the project will be financed from European funds, in the total amount of slightly more than 241 million euros”, reads the statement.
The project is valued at almost 300 million euros, and it will enable Croatian Railways Infrastructure to continue with the modernization of the so-called Mediterranean Corridor at the section between Zagreb and the Hungarian border. Croatian Railways Infrastructure also pointed out that in July of this year works were started on the reconstruction of existing and construction of the second track of the railway line between Dugo Selo near Zagreb and Križevci, which are valued at nearly 200 million euros.
The new track of the railway line will generally follow the existing route, except in the section between Carevdar and Lepavina, where the railway line will be moved by about 4.3 kilometres. The works will include reconstruction and construction of four large and six smaller railway stations, upgrade of road crossings, construction of 11 denivelation facilities, the removal of one existing bridge over the river Drava and the construction of a new one.
These activities will increase the line capacity, enable speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour, shorten travel times, allow usage of interoperable trains, and increase the level of safety, according to the Croatian Railways Infrastructure.
