Restored Old Market to Open Up in Tirana

Tirana, Albania | Tirana Echo – Tirana’s old town market will open up on Tuesday after a total make up financed by the Albanian American Enterprise Fund, which will offer the capital city a market and cultural heritage site.

The town hall of Albania’s capital is bracing to welcome more than 300 shop keepers and thousands of people who will flood the city’s fully restored old market which is to open its doors on ‘Summer Day’ celebrations next Tuesday.

Tirana’s energetic Mayor Erion Veliaj has praised the work done in record time and said the new market will serve as a commercial and tourist destination, adding value to Tirana’s landmarks.

I am extremely enthusiastic about this miracle. I don’t believe there is another project in Albania where a western foundation like AAEF together with a local authority, a contractor and tens of sub-contractors, hundreds of children and locals can find a common understanding and cooperate. Starting from Tuesday, Tirana will have an old town, an historic neighborhood, like any other city,” – said Veliaj while inspecting last minute glossing of the project.

One of the directors of the Albanian American Enterprise Fund also praised the work done.

I am very happy about this project and I am confident that the rehabilitation of this area will transform a cultural space where the traditional combines with the modern,” said Martin Mata of the AAEF .

The old town Tirana market has been transformed in under one year into a multi functional area where during daytime will serve as a market and in the evenings as a recreation and touristic neighborhood.
