Kosovo to Form its Own Army – says President

Prishtina, Kosovo | Tirana Echo – Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaçi has vowed to change the law on the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) which should take over protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo.

The announcement came during a visit in the small village of Prekaz, known for its KLA legendary commander Adem Jashari who fell in a siege by the Yugoslav army in March 1998.

Thaçi said that very soon the law which regulates the functioning of Kosovo’s Security Force will go to parliament, pointing out that his proposal does not go against the constitution.

“In the coming days and within my constitutional provisions, I will undertake all competencies to ensure that the FSK transformation becomes reality through the change of the law” – said Thaçi

The President of Kosovo added that no one can stain the war of the KLA, which in the end brought freedom and independence to the people of Kosovo.

Kosovo commemorates today the 19th anniversary of the Battle of Prekaz where KLA founder Adem Jashari and  58 others, women and children included, were brutally killed by Serb forces after a 3 days siege around his family compound in Prekaz.

Kosovo is recognized as an independent state since its independence declaration in February 2008 by 114 countries and hopes to join the European Union after having obtained UN recognition.
