Breaking news: Singapore recognizes Kosovo’s independence

Prishtina – Singapore has officially recognized Kosovo’s independence. The news was announced by the Kosovan Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj during a press conference for RTV Dukagjini, local media in Kosovo.

Singapore is the 113rd out of 193 United Nations (UN) members to formally recognize Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state after the country declared independence on February 17, 2008.

“I’ve continuously lobbied by visiting Singapore first in 2013, while I’ve held talks and meetings with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in New York. Kosovo now counts 113 recognitions,” Foreign Minister Hoxhaj said via Twitter.

“The Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Singapore have established diplomatic relations as of 1st December 2016,” Hoxhaj twitted.

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a state in Southeast Asia with a population of 5.7 million.

Kosovo’s FM Enver Hoxhaj will visit Singapore in January 2017 to deepen political, economic and trade ties with Singapore.
