My Big Fat Greek Eurovision/ Demy set to perform This is Love

Greece has chosen Demy to represent Greece at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. But what is her background, why was she selected and what is Demy singing?

Who is Demy?
Dimitra Papadea was born on August 21, 1991 in the Greek capital of Athens.

The 25-year-old singer is signed with Greek Independent label Panik Records and in 2012 she won best new artist and two other awards at the Greek VMAs.
Aside from her singing career she is also a law student in Athens and has expressed a desire to finish her studies despite her increasing popularity as a singer.

How was Demy chosen to represent Greece?
Initially it was thought that Greek television channel Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation would hold a competition in which Demy would be competing in a national final against former Greek X Factor contestants Stereo Soul.

However this didn’t happen and on January 13, 2017 Demy was announced as the Greek Eurovision entrant following an internal selection process.

What song is Demy performing?
Demy is singing the song This Is Love, which was composed by Dimitris Kontopoulos with lyrics from Romy Papadea and John Ballard.

What are the odds on Greece winning?
Sunbets’ Eurovision odds currently list Greece winning at 12/1.
